Big Shot

My mom is the music pastor at Pacific Christian Church  and she has been asked to premier the kids musical Big Shot! So a crew is coming to video the musical, and everyone who buys the musical will get a video of our kids choir. The video will give the other churches a perspective on how they can preform the musical. So we try and set the bar high. I'm going to be posting a pic of each night we work on the set because I think it's a cool process, and think it would be cool for all of you to see. So this being said here's day 1 and 2 hope you enjoy.
This is day one the musical takes place in a backyard and all the characters are bugs. So we made some grass to give the feel of the backyard.
On Day 2 we painted the grass different colors to give some dimensions so it isn't flat. This is just the beginning more to come.
Day 3 we put fake grass all over the stage just to make it look better. But it's kinda of very green so the next day we plan to give it some color.
Day 4 we put some grass on the front steps too cover up floor monitors, and put up flowers and butterfly's to add color and effect! Almost finished now just for the small details and a couple more props!

Reflections On Week One

The only thing I can think of that might effect me in this class is my schedule, balancing Basketball, Volleyball, and Golf will be challenging. It should only effect me on days where I have a late game. The worst that it could do is make me turn in a assignment a day late, no big deal.

I think the coolest learning experience I had was when my cousin and I sat down and talked super late about his job. Hes a mechanical engineer, and works for Oxi a major corporation that drills oil and sends it to different companies to be refined. I want to be a petroleum engineer so as you can imagine I just kept asking away with every question that came to mind. We Were sitting in my grandmas living room, and I think we talked tell 1 a.m. I learned that when its a subject i'm interested in I will absorb the information more.

So far I am most concerned about the amount of work! It has all been kind of overwhelming, but i'm sure it will get a little easier. The thing I want to draw from this class is a more open mind, and learn to think deeper. Teachers always ask you to "think deeper" and "read in-between the lines" this is something I have never been to good at doing I normally just read because the teacher assigns it. Hopefully I can change this bad habit I have acquired. Open source learning is also going to be something that will help me thorough out the rest of my education because most college courses you will use your laptop a lot. This class will get me comfortable with typing and maneuvering the computer in a timely manner.

I CAN READ

Dr. Preston had about 4 mistakes, and it took him 4 minutes and 30 seconds.

I had about 8 mistakes and it took me about 5 minutes and 15 seconds. This was actually a lot harder then I thought it was going to be, but it was really fun.

My Sister Can Read

My sister tried the Fox in Socks and only messed up 4 Times way better then me! This was her First take!

Easy:
-The questions where you had to just interpret what the passage was trying to say.
-Also questions that weren't about texts, but just about stuff of your own knowledge.

Challenging:
-Questions that are asking for the main idea of the passage even though i would read it I couldn't narrow it down to the final answer.
-Its hard to relate one passage to another.
-Oh and who can forgot the questions that have two possible answers, but you can't come to a complete decision on the right one.

Haunting Questions:
-Questions where i had absolutely no idea what the answer was and couldn't narrow it down at all.
-Also, I'm not a very good test taker.

Poetry #1

1. The poem is called "The Laughing Heart" by Charles Bukowski.
2. It is ironic because the poem is about living your life freely and to the fullest but Levis is using it to sell their product and telling you to live your life "freely but also where Levis.
3. From the little I know about this author Charles Bukowski I believe that it dose reflect his writing. The reason being he was a heavy drinker and was into prostitution so the poem reflects his fee spirited life perfectly.
4.To Find the authors name I simple typed in a short line of the poem and clicked on several links to confirm that is was correct. Also to find the answer to number three I put in my search bar "The Life of Charles Bukowski" and found a article about how he lived.

I Will Catch Up

I was debating taking this class all summer and could not come to a clear decision so I only read one book.I have taken Honors and AP English classes my previous three years so i want to finish what i have started. Also, My sister one of your former students convinced me to take it and just try it because her and her friends enjoyed it. After today in class and this whole idea of open learning i'm pretty interested, and i'm going to stick with the class for sure! So I WILL CATCH UP and write the essay as soon as I finish the Poisonwood Bible.

Pride and Prejudice Notes

Setting: The novel takes place in the 19th century in England. It is centered mostly in Longbourn which is very close to London.

Character List:

Mrs Bennet- The mother of the five daughters. she is always trying to be a match maker, she also has a temper, and lacks class.

Mr. Bennet- The father of the five daughters and husband of Mrs. Bennet. He is a country gentlemen, likes reading, and is very quiet.

Jane Bennet- The eldest of the five daughters, she is beautiful and shy. she ends up falling in love and marrying Mr. Bingley.

Elizabeth Bennet- Her nickname is Lizzy. She is the second oldest daughter. She is intelligent and witty. At first she doesn't like Mr. Darcy, but she ends up falling in love with him.

Marry Bennet- The middle child, she is very plain, silly, and tasteless.

Catherine Bennet- the fourth of the five children, she isnt a big role in the story but is always chasing soldiers.

Lydia Bennet- The youngest who is very silly, and flirty. She is her mothers favorite because they are the most alike,

Charles Bingley- Very wealthy man who is kind, and charming. He ends up marrying the eldest daughter Jane.

Fitzwilliam Darcy- Wealth best friend of Charles, he is very rude, and proud but changes after meeting Elizabeth.

Themes:
One major theme is that marriage is important to individuals and society. in the novel it talks about all different types of marriages and how everyone wants to get married.

Another theme uses the title itself. "Pride and Prejudice" because they both stand in the way of relationships. Pride narrows the vision of a person. Prejudice also blinds you and it leads you to false perception about others.

Mood: The mood of the novel is very formal and realistic to the time period it is set in. One thing that was nice as well is even though is about love and marriage, it is not only romantic and emotional, but pretty realistic.
